Our Western Rustic chickens are a hardy, slower-growing alternative to the commercial broiler. With strong, natural instincts and robust health, they offer a more traditional poultry experience, one that prioritizes animal welfare, meat quality, and sustainable farming.

Unlike the fast-growing Cornish Cross, Western Rustics take over 12 weeks to reach full weight, allowing them to develop at a natural pace. This slower growth produces exceptionally flavorful meat, with a rich texture and a slight yellow hue to the skin, more reminiscent of heritage birds and less like the white-skinned supermarket chicken.

These birds thrive on pasture. They’re active, strong-legged, and capable of foraging, roosting, and moving freely, all of which contribute to their health and the regenerative benefits they bring to the land. With vibrant red feathers and a more traditional body type, they look and behave like what many would imagine when picturing a real farm-raised chicken.

Western Rustics are more disease-resistant and adaptable to outdoor conditions, making them an ideal fit for our rotational grazing system. While they are a bit more challenging to process due to their less-industrialized breeding, the result is a bird that represents everything we stand for: natural growth, better taste, and ethical practices.
