About Us
Hi! My name's Spencer Haywood, and I'm the founder of Quantum Farm, a pasture-raised poultry and pig farm nestled on 11 acres in the beautiful Passmore area of the Kootenays, beneath the shadow of the Valhalla Mountains. I started this farm in 2021 after purchasing the land, building a home here. I recognizing a clear gap in the local food system, specifically, the lack of access to truly pasture-raised, non-GMO meat from local, trustworthy sources.
With a background rooted in agriculture and rural living, I’ve always felt connected to the land. Before farming, I worked in the construction industry and served in the Canadian military. My passion lies in raising animals with care and cultivating healthy, regenerative land, Building and providing local food security, being the solution to problems and trying to do my part.
Farming in the Kootenays means being surrounded by breathtaking natural diversity, from towering cedar and fir forests to the Slocan River and endless mountains. It’s a place of deep meaning for me and my son. Though winters bring limited daylight, the summers are vibrant and full of opportunity to grow, raise, and nurture.
At Quantum Farm, we raise animals using regenerative practices that prioritize animal welfare, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship. Our pigs and poultry are rotated frequently to preserve the land and prevent overgrazing. They have ample access to pasture, fresh air, sunlight, and space to express natural behaviors like rooting and foraging. We never rush the process, our animals grow at a natural pace, and we harvest only when they’ve reached the right stage.
Transparency is at the heart of everything we do. While we’re not yet certified organic, we hold ourselves to high standards, using only trusted, mostly BC-grown, non-GMO feed. We believe that being open and honest with our community is more important than a label. When you buy from Quantum Farm, you know exactly where your food is coming from, and how it was raised.
Above all, I’m building this farm not just for today, but for tomorrow. I’m raising my five-year-old son here, showing him the value of working with nature, eating locally, and respecting animals and the land. This farm is a vision for a better, more transparent food system, one that can hopefully last for generations.
